Today in Fake Holidays: Have a Caipirinha
Cachaça, the national spirit of Brazil, once widely neglected on U.S. shores, has never been easier to find. Today, because every food or beverage now apparently gets its own day of celebration, is National Cachaça Day. As our own David Wondrich points out, you're best avoiding the more industrial-grade brands of the liquor, distilled from sugarcane, which can sometimes taste as though they were made inside a car tire. But you do want a little funk in your caipirinha, the cocktail most known for its use of cachaça. A little lime, a little sugar, and you'll be set. See Wondrich's caipirinha recipe here and his cachaça recommendations here.
